MTurk paid a median of $2/hour. Does it matter that AI just ended it?
Amazon is shutting down Mechanical Turk, a marketplace where 500,000+ people earned a median near $2 an hour doing the tasks computers couldn’t. If the work was already below minimum wage and the demand simply moved up-market to credentialed experts, is this a labor tragedy worth mourning — or the floor of the economy finally being swept away, and what happens to the people standing on it?
